| She looks fragile and beautiful like a just blossomed rose. But you understand the spunk in her when you talk to her. You also realize that it is for nothing that she is the most happening actress in Tollywood now.
Yes, the Boys girl, Genelia D”Souza is the every man’’s girl (every producer wants to sign her for his film, that is).
The simple Catholic girl who got a vital break through the Fair & Lovely ad is now the face that is launching several films in Telugu today. And it is not just those lovely limpid eyes and the impish smile that Genelia is famous for. Most directors say she is a talented actress. She is currently doing films opposite Nitin (Sye), NTR Jr (Sambha).
But Genelia is still retains the girl-next-door mind set.
A chat with the up and coming actress |

How do you reconcile to you new star status.
Frankly, I feel I am just doing a job. Acting is just like any other profession. The only thing it is just more high profile. I love the trappings that come with being an actress. But that doesn’t mean I have changed as a person.
But as an actress you have to forego certain things?
That is part of the deal. I may not able to go out as frequently as I used to do before. But that is the universal law: You win some, you lose some.

Tell us something about your forthcoming films Sambha and Sye
In Sambha I play a role close to my heart. It’s a very homely character and it was really fun doing the film. I was slightly nervous working with a star like NTR Jr. Initially, I thought NTR will be full of starry tantrums and stuff like that. But we got along pretty well and I like the way he dances. You get a high watching him dance and I enjoyed the entire experience. Sye is another interesting project. The film has a very youthful feel to it. Rugby is used as a weapon in the film. I play a very sweet character which every college-going girl will relate to.

How about the director Vinayak?
Well, he is so sure of himself. He has a wonderful visual sense and knows what he wants from others. It is but natural that he is successful. It is an honor to work with him.

After Boys, why didn’t you concentrate in Tamil?
Though I made my debut in Tamil, I haven’t got very good offers there. So I have decided to concentrate on Telugu. Here the offers have been many and varied. I love the challenge here.
What are your long-term plans in the industry?
I am not exactly in a position to talk or make any long-term plans. I like to take things as they come. I am happy with what I have. Sometimes if you plan too much, you may be too disappointed if they don’t happen.

What about your modelling career?
I have hardly any time for that. But I love ads. It is what gave me the opening. Recently, I did the shooting for the sequel of the Fair & Lovely ad. I am also doing a few other ad films.
How about Bollywood?
I have actually landed myself a Hindi film. But I don’t want to talk about it now. You will hear about it soon.
